5 Obstacles That Every New Vegetarian Must Overcome




Think about what you eat on a daily basis. Have you ever thought about becoming a vegetarian and what the steps would be to become one? It is not always an easy step to decide to become a vegetarian. There are a few obstacles to overcome in order to start a vegetarian lifestyle.



1)    Meat Elimination :The first obstacle to over come is eliminating meat from your diet. This can be a very hard thing to do. Some say that it is easier if you take it one step at a time. First you cut out the chicken that you eat then your stop eating pork and then the beef. By making this a gradual cutting out of the meat it may be easier to not miss.

2)   Deciding The Vegetarian Type You Want To Be : The second obstacle is choosing whether you want to be a vegetarian or a vegan. The difference is that when you are a vegetarian you just cut out the meat in your diet. If you are a vegan then you can not eat any product that comes from an animal. This will include milk, cheese and butter because it comes from a cow. The way to overcome this is to simply decide what you want to cut out of your diet. Some people just do not want the meat in them so they choose to become a vegetarian and only eat vegetables.

 3)    Getting Your Daily Nutrition : Another one of the obstacles that you will face being a vegetarian newbie will be to make sure that you are getting all of the nutrition's that you need to have a healthy life. To overcome this you can check all of the foods that you are going to eat to make sure that they provide you with a well balanced diet. You will need to make sure that you are getting in at least 1200 calories a day. By checking the food pyramid you can make sure that you are getting enough of carbohydrates, fats and protein that your body will need.

4)   Shopping For Your Vegetarian or Vegan Lifestyle : Your next step in a vegetarian lifestyle will be where you can purchase the foods that you want to eat. Most food stores sell vegetables and you can also check the health food stores. If you have decided to be a vegetarian there are a lot of stores that sell vegetables. Depending on where you live some places have open air farmer markets that make a great place to shop if you are either a vegetarian or a vegan.

5)     Dealing With The Reactions of Friends and Family:  The last obstacle that you may have to over come will be all of the peer pressure that you may receive. Not everyone wants to be a vegetarian and they do not understand why someone may want to be. One thing that you can do is to check in your area for support groups. You will be sure to find one that has nothing but vegetarians there. If this does not work for you then you can decide to stay away from other people that eat meat until you are comfortable with the lifestyle that you have chosen.
